 In a shocking turn of events on May 3, at the Hollywood Bowl, comedy legend Dave Chappelle found himself in the midst of an on-stage attack. 

However, what truly stole the spotlight was Chris Rock's perfectly timed comedic response. Rock, who had been at the center of a previous public incident with Will Smith, humorously quipped, "Was that Will Smith?" as Chappelle grappled with his assailant. 

This incident harks back to the 2022 Oscars when Chris Rock made a joke about Jada Pinkett Smith, provoking a surprising slap from Will Smith. Since then, Rock has remained relatively tight-lipped, with many speculating that he might be saving the material for a lucrative comedy special. 

The motive behind the attack on Chappelle remains unclear, although he has recently faced backlash for his comments about the LGBTQ community, leading to protests and even a walkout by some Netflix employees. 

Despite the assault, Chappelle seemed unfazed, even mentioning that his attacker may have identified as a "trans man."

 The aftermath of Chappelle's incident was quite different, with the attacker leaving on a stretcher with a severely injured arm.

The assailant was taken into police custody after being attended to by paramedics, leaving fans online quick to highlight the distinction between Chappelle and Chris Rock's reactions.
