Snoop Dogg and Queen Latifah have joined forces with Pete Rock to express their support for Heavy D & The Boyz and their overlooked contributions to hip-hop culture. Pete Rock, a legendary producer, took to Instagram to voice his frustration about the lack of recognition for his late cousin and his group in the celebrations surrounding Hip Hop's 50th anniversary.
In his strongly-worded post, Rock emphasized Heavy D's impact and relevance in the music business, stating that he paved the way for many artists. He called for a proper televised tribute to honor Heavy D's achievements and contributions to the game. His plea garnered support from numerous rap legends and cultural icons, including Snoop Dogg and Queen Latifah.
Snoop simply stated, "Facts. Big. Tyme," while Queen Latifah fondly remembered Heavy D as a friend who showed her the ropes of rocking a crowd. Other notable figures like Kool DJ Red Alert, Easy Mo Bee, Marlon Wayans, and Omari Hardwick also voiced their agreement and admiration for Heavy D.
Known for his smoothness, humility, and crossover appeal, Heavy D made a significant impact on both the music and acting scenes. With Heavy D & The Boyz and his successful solo career, he left a lasting legacy. Unfortunately, he passed away in 2011 at the age of 44.
Pete Rock's impassioned plea sheds light on the importance of recognizing Heavy D's contributions to hip-hop history and ensuring his impact is properly acknowledged in the 50th anniversary celebrations.
